I have a serious problem with my Amiga 3000. I have TWO Quantum-PRO 52S hard
drives (one that came with the Amiga 3000. and one I bought brand new). The
problem is when I first turn on my computer. The second hard drive does not
show up, I have to turn my computer back off and on (before the hard drives
spin down) to be able to see the second hard drive. I though it was a timeout
problem, so I got the SCSIPrefs program which enabled me to increase the
SCSI timeout time (in the battery backed RAM). Unfortunately, this did not
help at all... The problem still exists. The Quantum that came with my 3000 is
revision 5.3, the one I bought is 5.6E... That should not be the problem,
though... CAN ANYONE HELP?

This was measured with DiskSpeed 3.1, and using high intensity with DMA and CPU stress modes had nearly no effect on the transfer rate. I think it's safe to say that the A3000's controller is faster than any drive you'll run into. By comparison: a CDC Wren III got 0.9 megabytes/sec, a Quantum 170S measured 1.05 megabytes/sec, and an H-P 1 gigabyte drive gave 1.5 megabytes/sec. -- Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland 580 Arapeen Drive, SLC, Utah 84108 blgardne@javelin.sim.es.com or blgardne%javelin@dsd.es.com ...dsd.es.com!javelin!blgardne or {decwrl, utah-cs}!esunix!blgardne DoD #0046 My other motorcycle is a Quadracer. I have to get by with the Wren III and Quantum 170. :-) However if you have some gigabyte drives of your own, the WangDAT (Digital Audio Tape format) tape drive is a nice companion. 1.3 gigabyte capacity uncompressed, and up to 3 gigabytes with the drive's hardware compression enabled. With compression on, it backed up 12 megabytes in under 2 minutes using Tar and Marcus Wandel's TAPE: handler. -- Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland 580 Arapeen Drive, SLC, Utah 84108 blgardne@javelin.sim.es.com or blgardne%javelin@dsd.es.com ...dsd.es.com!javelin!blgardne or {decwrl, utah-cs}!esunix!blgardne DoD #0046 My other motorcycle is a Quadracer.
