[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A500 Revision 6A memory slots on motherboard: usable?

jhensley@isis.cs.du.edu (John Hensley) (02/07/91)

Is there any way to use the extra space for memory chips on the 6A
motherboards? Every time I run low I hear this taunting chuckle from within
my 500's case, and I'm getting sick of it. I've been told "yes, but we can't
tell you how" (from a Commodore employee, naturally), "it's impossible
to use them," "it's impossible to use them with an A501," and "they're there
for future use, but Commodore doesn't want you to like your 500 until it's
completely obsolete." Which of these if any is correct?

It just grates to have 1.5M 25 bucks away, obviating the need for expansion
devices that either cost too much or are more than I need, and not be able
to touch it.

If anyone *does* know the purpose of these slots, or at least how to put them
to use, please let me in on the secret. If it matters, I've done the mod to
give me a meg of chip RAM.

Thanks,
John
