[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Bad clock??

mental@bluemoon.uucp (Sean Kellner) (02/05/91)

The clock on my Amiga seems to act kinda funny. When I boot it up about
3 in the afternoon, everything is fine. By the time 10 or so rolls around,
the clock is off by a good 5 minutes. I can setclock load and it will fix
it but this seems wierds that this problem shoul happen. What is wrong
with my computer or is the Amiga just not that accurate??
  Thanks
   Sean

This kind of clock problem seems to be quite common in amiga. I had quite
serious problem some time ago with my clock. Everything worked fine when
I booted my machine but after one minute and 21 seconds my clock reseted
itself to its preset (which had been made by setclock opt load-command).

After some investigation I found that the problem was with my I/O-chip (8520).
It had been damaged earlier when I had connected modems etc. to my amiga
with power on!! Broken I/O-chip also had funny effect on my printer. When
I shut off my amiga printer started feeding paper line by line. I bought
new 8520-chip and after that clock has worked just fine.
