I'm looking for a cheap CPU card for my 500. It must be cheap, like in the $300 price range. I've heard a lot of generic talk about the LUCAS, but no real information. What is the specs on this thing, how good is it, how much will it cost to build, and does ANYBODY sell a pre-built kit or a kit with all the parts (IE: I solder a few things on and plug the chips in.)? I'm also interested in hearing how it compares to the AdSpeed or any other relatively cheap cards for the 500. What is the price of Saphire or any of the other ones that have recently come out? LUCAS/FRANCES is a 68020 accellerator card (LUCAS == Little Ugly Cheap Accellerator System) and 4Mb 32-bit RAM card (FRANCES == Fast Ram At Nominal Cost for Expanded Storage). It was designed for the Amiga 1000; you can (or at least could) purchase the circuit boards and programmed PALs for it from Brad Fowles. Articles describing the system (including schematics and PAL equations) were published in the late (almost always late, too) lamented Transactor for the Amiga (December 88 and August 89). More recent information may also be available from Brad. I *think* the thing might work in a 500 or 2000, if a way could be found to make the cards fit. I don't know if it has ever been done.
