[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Spirit Technology's IN-1000 and HDA-506 don't like each other.

Michael_Kelly@61ssc1.ceo.dg.com (02/08/91)

I have an A1000 (European/PAL model) with a fully populated (1.5Mb)
IN-1000 memory expansion board and two 20Mb disk drives hanging off
an HDA-506 MFM Disk controller. I am unable (most of the time) to
boot from the hard disk. The symptoms are 'Out of memory' and
'Checksum' validation errors and Read/Write errors. The system will
boot from DF0: without any problems.
If I run the Hadr disk verify program, it doesn't find any errors.
I have ran all Spirit's memory diagnostics without a single error.
I've even tried removing 1Mb of the 1.5Mb without success.
If I remove the IN-1000 board the HD boots without error.
Occasionally I can succeed in booting the HD but only after zillions
of presses on the 'Retry' button in the System Request window.
Occasionally the system GURU's with error code 3 and an address in
fast ram.
Since both of these products were manufactured by Spirit, I would
assume that they should be able to coexist happily together, or do
they? Does anyone out there know different?
Is there any other memory expansion products I could add on in place
of the IN-1000 as the disk controller has a through port for the
expansion bus? Thanks in advance for any help. Michael.
