I recently added a GVP hard card SCSI controller to my A2500. I ran into a strange problem: When I left the 2090 in it's original slot (Zorro slot 1) and added the GVP to another free slot (Zorro slot 3) The system would not boot. The screen just cycled from light to dark grey. If I reverse the order of the modules, it seems to work fine. Anyone have an idea as to why this happens? Is it a known problem? I haven't called GVP or C= support yet. --- W. John Guineau guineau@wjg.enet.dec.com Digital Equipment Corporation Marlboro MA. 01752

There was discussion at some time, but I don't remember what the solution was to the problem of getting a 2090a running on an A3000. I know that there is a problem with it 'trying' to DMA to fast mem (No can do on a 16-bit controller), so you need to make sure buffers and the like do not end up in 32-bit Memory (fastMem). I do the following: run nofastmem binddrivers dir dh0: And I get my DH0: partition (a 1 cylinder partition that just contains the mountlist of the rest of the drive). I then mount the following Device /* MountList entries for Rodime RO3055 (40 MB ST-506) Hard Disk */ MH0: Device = hddisk.device Unit = 1 Flags = 0 Surfaces = 6 BlocksPerTrack = 17 FileSystem = l:FastFileSystem Reserved = 2 LowCyl = 3 ; HighCyl = 869 Buffers = 50 GlobVec = -1 Mount = 1 Mask = 0x00fffffe BufMemType = 2 DosType=0x444F5301 # I then do a 'Dir mh0:' and it tells me that it "can't get information .. Not a filesystem device". I have tried without the Mask, I have tried with BufMemType = 0 (To 'allow' buffers in fast memory), and it always comes up the same problem. Any ideas? --- Opinions expressed in this message are my Own. I represent nobody else.
