[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Amiga 2000 crashes with Aries RAM expansion

gmz@xroads.UUCP (Gerry Zeitlin) (02/11/91)

I just added an Aries RAM card with 2 MB of 1MegX1 memory chips, to
my Amiga 2000 with its factory-delivered 1Meg of RAM. Within the
first couple of hours of use, I experienced three crashes: two
Gurus and a freezeup. Normally this *never* happens. At the time
of the crashes, the machine had been sitting idle, running only one
user task, such as a telecom program (Platinum Online!) which didn't
happen to be connected to anything, or a shell, or Memacs.

I ran extensive memory tests: 25 passes of Memory Doctor. It found
no bad chips.

Is there something I need to do that nobody told me about, or should
I suspect a defective Aries board?

My original posting had to do with system crashes after installing an
Aries memory expansion card in my Amiga 2000.

Conversations with the manufacturer and retailer involved resulted in
my learning that I have a rev 4.4 motherboard, and an upgrade is
recommended, at a cost of approx $375 plus installation.

Anyone have any suggestions as to whether or not I should do this?
