[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] AE DRIVE

In a previous post, grx1042@uoft02.utoledo.edu (Steve Snodgrass) says:

Standard (880K) disks are addresed with the normal drive number; for example
DF1: if the AE is your second drive.

High Density disks are addressed 4 higher than the standard device number,
for
example my AE drive (which is DF1:) works as DF5: for high density disks.

Of course, only one of these devices will work at a time, depending on what
type of disk you have in the drive.

BAD cut and paster - Hate working on Macs. Anyway, Has anyone tried using
AssignDevice: or a similar programme that patches the system and forces it
to see df5: as, say df2:?

Welp, I'd want it because a few file manipulation programmes I use
(and a few paint programmes, and a few animation programmes, and a few sound
programmes) are still panel-retentive, i.e. hard-coded file requesters
asking for devices I don't have, while ignoring the 3 hard-disks I DO have.
VERY annoying - so I have to munge the system slightly to make up for bad
programming. You all know what I mean (especially fellow 3000 owners), your
old PD copy of Diskman, your FAVOURITE programme, won't recognise WB_2XX:
but will still look for DH0: ...like I said before, panel-retentive..

        But THANKS for the info!
