[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A500 & A2000

careyk@uhccux.uhcc.Hawaii.Edu (Carey Kinoshita) (02/16/91)

Some of my friends have been telling me that the Amiga
A500 is slower than the A2000 and that game won't run
at the correct speed on the A500 compared to on the A2000.
I was wondering whether this was true since I thought the
A2000 was just like an A500 with slots and a detachable
keyboard.

I also was wondering if anybody on the net has any experience
using an A500 with the CA-500 Bodega Bay A-500 Expansion
console? I would like to have that option of expansion open
in case I need for NewTek's VideoToaster. Thanks

Tell your friends that they are full of it. Operationally speaking,
the A500 and A2000 are pretty much the same. I own an A2000 and a good
friend of mine has an A500 and we've had them side by side before to
play various games via null-modem and there is no noticeable
difference in speed from where we were sitting.

I can't help you with this one, don't know anyone with a Bodega Bay.

According to the folks at Go Amiga, the Bodega Bay is being held up by
the FCC for the appropriate emmisions testings. They claim that once
they're certified, they will ship immediately.

So, I guess the answer is "no."

Stock A500's and A2000 with the same amount of chip and fast
RAM will run at identical speeds.

I have been working on a BBS with a friend who uses the Bodega
Bay, and it works very nicely. Don't count on putting a
Video toaster in it, at least for a while, it doesn't have the
video slot which is required for the toaster.
