[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 2 Meg Agnus in older models

huebner@en.ecn.purdue.edu (Robert E. Huebner) (02/26/91)

I saw some ads some time ago for a device which can put a 2 Meg Agnus
(ala A3000) into an Amiga 2000. Has anyone had any experience with this?
It its operation completely transparent or does it need to be configured
during startup-sequence? Also, what prevents its use in an A500?

Thanks

It's called the "MEGACHIP 2000" and it is sold by the Grapevine Group. It's
actually small board with the new Agnus and other stuff required to give you 2
megs chip ram. It plugs into the Agnus socket on the motherboard. It does
auto-configure so nothing special is required after completing the
installation. I've had no problems with it so far. I have no idea why it
won't work on the 500. Supposedly, this thing will work with all cards except
the Midget Racer.

My brother installed on in his machine while I was up visiting at Christmas,
and has been running with it ever since. The memory is totally Aut-Config
(IE: It has 1M of ram on the Board itself, and fits into your old Agnus socket).
I've not heard of a program that had a problem with it.

I'm not really sure - We tried this, and it did not work. I unfortunately was
not visiting my brother long enough to find out, and I have not yet gotten one
to play with at work.

If one needs the Video Memory, I would highly reccomend it. Unfortunately I
don't remember the name of the company that made it at the moment (But if I
get inquiries, I'll ask my Bro..)
