[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] CIA 8520 swapping - Help

Scott_Busse@mindlink.UUCP (Scott Busse) (02/28/91)

I assume that the symptoms outlined below indicate that I have a malfunctioning
CIA chip in my A2500/30 (rev4.4). What I'm wondering is what will happen when I
swap the two CIA chips. Perhaps someone at CBM knows which functions happen on
which CIA.
The symptoms are: 1.- the system clock is dead. It will accept the time from a
"setclock load", but the date setting stays the same over time. 2.- Mouseclick
functions are screwed up, as in 3 clicks or 1 click required (sometimes) for
what is normally a double click.
So if the timer registers are dead on that chip, are those same timer registers
used for another function when this 8520 is plugged into the other socket?

I'm going to swap them anyway, to see, but I would like to hear from a
Commodore expert who knows about the various usage of the timers in the 2 8520
chips.
Thanks for any help!
