[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Enhanced Chip Set Availabilty ?

joem@nos850.UUCP (Joe Muller) (01/31/91)

Is the Enhanced Chip Set availabe to the public ? I would like to use
super productivity mode on my 2500 and I would think that it would be
made available as an upgrade. A friend of mine has it in his 2000, but
he told me that was only because he was a developer.

Any plans to make it available, or does Commodore just want us to go out
and buy 3000's ?

The new Denise only works under 2.0, so you'll have to wait to get any use out
of it until 2.0 is released in ROM.

The 'When is the Denise available' and 'When is 2.0 available' is the same
question.

Are you sure that the new Denise will only work under 2.0 or do you mean that
the new Denise's extra features will only be supported under 2.0. If it is the
latter, it would be possible to get the new Denise before 2.0 and just not get
any new features until 2.0.

ECS DENISE works just fine under older versions of the O/S
1.3. The ECS enhancements will only be supported in 2.0 and
later revs.

It you're not making use of the new features, then why bother with the new
chip? Is this a case where your old Denise is Toast, and you have to buy a
new one anyways (Which would make this a good idea).

Do you have the 1M agnus? That would be the only limitation (I assume,
I've never actually put a new Denise onto an old 512K Agnus - If you wish,
I can try it).

P.S. Yes, the new Denise is on the price lists as an A3000 only part.

He means the latter (even if he didn't mean it, that's what he means... :-)
I'm using the new Denise just fine under 1.3 (on my A1000 with Rejuvinator),
as is anyone who runs 1.3 on their 3000. We just don't have the new video
modes under 1.3.
