[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Supra HD Downloading trouble

sacc@jove.cs.pdx.edu (Melinda Saccareccia) (03/04/91)

I'm having trouble downloading with Jr-comm.
	Heres the situation:
	Im At 2400 Baud.
Have 20 MEG Supra controller, normal model, HD is ST-125.
Jrcomm 8 colors 16K buffer. Ive tried 8,4,2 but doesn't change.
	Downloading with Z-modem CRC32.
	Have 1 meg ram.
	Have 2 10m partitions.
Every time the HD writes the buffer during the download i get an
error such as Subpacket too long, CRC error, and a few others. Every ONCE in
awhile I don't get an error. Not much running in background, text speed normal
speed so it's not like Im running a word processor or anything in the
background. If anyone has had this problem before or can suggest what's wrong
i would appreciate it!
I've talked to a Supra tech on a support BBS but they seem not to help.
Posting this message for a friend so please reply soon.
		Thanks!

Looks very much like the old problem with ancient hard disk drivers disabling
the interrupts while writing to the hard drive, thus locking out the
serial.device from reading the incoming bytes periodically.

Solutions: Try to figure out whether your harddisk configuration software
has a switch labeled 'Disable Interrupts' (or lookalike) or not.
If it has: Forbid the disabling of interrupts while accessing the HD.
If it hasn't: Download to RAM: and copy the files to your HD when you are
finished with your telecommunications session.

Best regards,
Holger
