[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Amiga 2300 genlock

lcc727@unhd.unh.edu (Layton C Cote) (03/03/91)

does anyone know about the amiga 2300 genlock? specifically, has anyone

out there used it a good deal? A friend is getting one, and wants to know

how well it works. Does it just allow one video source to be overlayed

with amiga graphics? sound mixing, etc?

Thanks a million for any help.

I have an A2300 Genlock and have used it a fair bit (but not really heavily).
It simply allows synchronizing the A2000's video sync to the NTSC source
(camera, VCR etc) that you connect to its video input. It then outputs
another composite NTSC signal that is the combination of the amiga video
overlayed with the incoming video. Basically any part of the amiga's
screen that was color register 0 is made transparent and the incoming
video can be seen in those sections. i.e. for the workbench screen, the
disk ICONs and menu bar would show up on top of the incoming source.
The 2300 doesn't do anything with the audio. That would be a nice
feature if it could mix the incoming audio in user specified proportion
with the amiga audio. In general though I don't think genlocks usually
play with the audio.
I'd say the A2300 works just fine for average use, perhaps some
of the 3rd party genlocks may be less expensive though.
