[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] 2ond parallel port for the A3000?

andrewsr@u2.rutgers.edu (Rich Andrews) (03/13/91)

Hello. I am crossposting this question because I think that it
invokes two areas of discussion: the hardware capabilites out there
and the philosophy that C= used to not put 2 of these ports on the
Amiga in the first place.

1st: is there a way to get a second parallel port on an A3000? If so,
do I have to waste a Zorro-III port?

2ond: Why didn't C= put 2 of these ports on the 3000 in the 1st place?
I know (cost); but, really, how much more would it have cost?

Besides, I still get a little starry eyed when I see the pitiful IBM
clones we have at work with 2 serial/parallel ports BEING USED. Now,
imagine a multitasking computer which could *really* use more than one
port at a time. I just sit there and shake my head.

Besides, I could even use more than 2 parallel ports: one to link my
A1000 via parnet to the 3000, one for a PS printer, and one for a
crappy JX-80. Then I could use a couple of serial ports for a modem
or two. That would be really wild!

(Then, the next project would be to get the A1000 to use the 3000's
peripherals).

Humm,
