I have a brand-new Chinon FZ354 disk drive. I thought that since the original drive was a F354, that it would be at least a very close replacement. Wrong! The drive does work; if I boot up with disk in the drive, then it will either boot with that disk, or at least allow access to the disk after my HD has finished booting. However, it doesn't notice disk changes (surprise!), and the drive itself is labeled bad (df0:bad) if I booty up with no disk in the drive. I know that I need to somehow get diskchange working, and this is a common problem with using non Amiga specific 3 1/2 inch drives. If anyone has managed to get this particular drive to work, or as some general suggestions, I'd like to hear them. I'd like to get this drive working, since I can get them for $46.00 a piece (without shipping). --hal -- hgm@ccvr1.cc.ncsu.edu "..now that Mac way of doing things has taken hold, netoprhm@ncsuvm.bitnet will we ever be able to get rid of it?"
