[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A500 SCSI interfaces

niobium@arrakis.nevada.edu (Christopher W. Carlson) (03/13/91)

I'm the proud owner of a 1 Meg A500 with a CLtd. SCSI hard-drive controller
and a ST227 hard disk drive, and am currently in the market for a combination
Autoboot-capable, memory-expandable SCSI controller to replace my current one.

My question is simple:
What benefits and problems do the various controller available now have? I'm
not looking for an integral hard disk drive, as I'd very much like to keep the
one I've got now, but that's about my only concern at this point, except that
I would also love to expand my RAM through the controller to 9M, although some-
thing less, like 5 or 6M would be acceptable if the deal was right.

So what's the verdict? I've heard that GVP controllers are fast and high-
quality, but I've heard nothing about, say the MAST Starblazer, which
apparently can also serve as an accelerator later on down the road.

Any comments? Suggestions? Please respond via mail, unless the information is
of Net-wide interest. Thank you for your time.
