[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A3000 with large monitors

barrett@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Dan Barrett) (03/13/91)

When I get an A3000, I'd like a monitor size of 16" or more.
What monitors are people using, and how well do they work:

o	with overscan?
o	with the display enhancer?
o	WITHOUT the display enhancer?

I'm considering the NEC 4D, but would love to hear about other
monitors as well. I have already read the issue of <some PC magazine or
other> that reviewed all the 16-21 inch color monitors about a year ago.

                                                        Dan

I am currently using a NEC 5D. It works FLAWLESSLY with overscan, the enchancer
,but does not dislplay NTSC. (guess NTSC isn't "state-of-the-art" enough!)8)
I have used EVERY mode that the 3000 supports, with varying success. It will
display every one, but you may not want to use it! ( ie. the 1280 modes)

If your pocketbook can afford it, go for a NEC 4or5D. You won't be
dissappointed and you won't be posting monitor problems everyday!

There is a new (March 26, 1991) article about 16-17" monitors in PC Magazine
You might want to read it. Their top honors go to the NEC 4D (list - $1499)
and the Idek MF-5117 (list - $1795). They say that the Idek has a wider
range of signal compatibility and both analog and digital input.

I am supposed to be getting info from either Samsung or Sanyo (don't remember
which) about their new 17" monitor that has the same list as the 16" Nec 4D.
Their add stated that they are using a flat face screen. I believe that they
have licensed this from Zenith. I remember seeing an article about Zenith
licensing their flat-tension mask technology to one of the Korean or Japanese
makers. If this is true then the monitor should be a very superb one.
