[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A3000 serial/MIDI

pmiller@vttcf.cc.vt.edu (Paul Miller) (03/22/91)

I have a serious problem with my A3000 serial port. I have tried two MIDI
interfaces, and neither seems to work. My Supra 2400 modem works fine, and a
homebrew MIDI OUT only device (driven by the data line) works. However, it
seems that the two MIDI devices I have tried seem to want to draw power from
the port, and it is possible that there is a problem there (the data I/O and
other standard modem functions work fine). Since I compose music with MIDI,
this is a big problem. Can anyone offer some advice on A: a MIDI device that
gets its power from somewhere other than the serial port (I have heard about
the MIDI Gold Insider which supposedly goes inside an A2000, but does not
require a slot - how does this get its power and how do I get in touch with
Goldenhawk Technologies? There's an answering machine there that doesn't say
what place I am actually reaching) and B: is there a decent internal serial
board that can output at MIDI rates, that's not too expensive? I can't afford
to send my Amiga off to get fixed. Any help would be appreciated!!
