I am currently in the process of restructuring my hard drive and decided to run DiskSpeed on it to see how well it was performing. Well, to say the least I was very disappointed. I get less than 200K/s performance, even with 256K buffers. With this knowledge, I proceeded to re-prep the hard drive to see if I could change performance. I am using a GVP Impact SCSI +8 with a Seagate 1096N which is supposedly a 35ms drive. This setup uses the Rigid Disk Block to do autobooting and doesn't provide any way to change the default parameters even though the manual hints at the ability to do this. So I ask the collective wisdom of the net, is there any way I can get better performance out of this setup? I'd REALLY like to get at least 500K/s since the manual claims the controller can do 2M/s. I can't believe the 1096N is this slow so I think it has something to do with the way the controller interfaces to it. Any help is greatly appreciated... Nathan Bohlmann <njb@rice.edu>
