[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Xetec FastTrak Harddrives: Any opinions?

epa@iti.org (Eric P. Armstrong) (03/21/91)

I am currently looking at purchasing a Xetec FastTrak harddrive system for
my A500. I am looking for any opinions, comments, problems with this
system. Im also looking for pointers on a 2MB memory expansion.

Please mail me directly, and I can summarize to the net.

I purchased my XETEC FastTrak SCSI almost a year and a half ago (Serial #
0006!), two months later, I purchased the FastRam daughterboard to go with it,
and populated it with 2 x 1MB SIMMS (100NS). 6 months later, after taking a
job as an AMIGA salesman, I topped off the RAM board with an additional 2 MB
of RAM. To date, the only problem I've EVER had with it was not until 1 month
ago when I purchased the ATonce IBM/AT emulator. It seems that my SCSI is so
old that there have been several ROM upgrades and a PAL chip or two changed.
These things may be causing the ATonce to not boot with the SCSI in place on
the expansion port. (THIS IS NOT XETEC'S FAULT as far as I can tell.) Prior to
this, FASTTRAK has been everything I could want. I even added a Quantum 105 HD
to the ST157n-1 I already had (Wow! an A500 with 5MB RAM and 150MB HD).
I cannot reccommend it enough. The product is solid and the support staff are
phenomenal (sic?). As for the ROMS and PALS, XETEC's Tech Support dept. has
given me a RA# and are replacing them FREE of charge. If only other AMIGA
developers would follow their lead.
