[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A1000 - Workbench starts to load,displays `````````````

vince@chevie.paloalto.ibm.com (Vince Layton) (03/29/91)

I have an Amiga 1000 with a 2-meg Starboard. When I boot off my Workbench
diskette, the following lines are displayed-

Commodore-Amiga 1985,1986 (or something like that)
All Rights Reserved (ditto)
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
``````````````````````````````````
And that's all she wrote. I can boot off of games with non-standard DOS
(i.e.Battle Squardron), but any disk with a normal DOS startup exhibits
the above described behavior. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is my
disk drive the problem(it seems to gronk more than usual). Any help will
be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vince Layton
Can't reach you for email....
Try unplugging the keyboard and see if it can boot up properly.
If yes... Something wrong with keyboard.  Check ` key and/or replace keyboard.
   no.... check CIA chips.  Swap the 2 inside your machine.
Other than the above, I can't make more suggestions without seeing it...
P.S.  I would be happy if the paycheck machine got stuck on printing 0000000000
      before the decimal point.  :)
Mine was doing that for a While, i got a new powersupplie, fixed it. :^)
As i remember it right the KeyCaps light was blinking.
I'd say open it up, dust it out.
If unpluggimng the keyboard solves it also check your keyboard cable. Most
likely at the point where it connects to the plug. I've had this problem and
other strange key repeating problems that seem to result when that part of my
cord is excessively strained and appears to be a loose connection.
