I have been reading alot concerning hooking up SCSI tape backup units to the Amiga with interest. With this in mind, let me ask the following questions. Will an Archive 2060S drive work on the Amiga? Is there software which can backup data to it? If this will work, I can get these drives for $250.00. Maybe, if there is interest, I could arrange a group buy for interested persons? - Doug - Doug_B_Erdely@Cup.Portal.Com

Both HDBackup (supplied with AmigaOS 2.0) and the combination of Tar and Marcus Wandel's TAPE: device worked fine, Tar was about twice as fast as HDbackup. >If this will work, I can get these drives for $250.00. Blaine, I would love to get my hands on one of these, but I am not sure if this model will work. It is supposed to be SCSI, for what its worth. Can you check and see what the model of the one you did use was? Thanks... - Doug - Doug_B_Erdely@Cup.Portal.Com

Yep, Doug. The Archive 2060S and ES work fine with the Amiga. The $5 questions are WHICH Amiga, WHICH SCSI Adapter, WHICH version of AmigaDOS? If you have the 3000 w/2.0, you received BRU, Fred Fish's UNIX based backup program. This program works great with the 3000's built in SCSI adapter. If you have an A2091, BRU will work with it also. If you have a 2090, I recommend that you try and swap it for a 2091 as nothing works properly that I've found. If you are using some of the other systems (Nexxus, Supra, GVP, et al), most of them have a backup program available that will use the Archive drive. I particularly liked Flashback from Nexxus. One final tip - use DC6250 tapes in the 2060 and you'll get 100 MBytes of data on a tape. Downside - once you start using 6250's, we don't recommend that you go back to 600A's or 6150's for writing. Ok, I have this system: A1000, 3 megs of RAM ALF-2 with 2 ST-506 Hard disks Supra 4x4 SCSI interface and I want to back up the ST-506 drives to a SCSI tape unit. I need a mountlist entry for it... can anyone be of some general help here? It's from a Mac, it's 60 megs/tape and I can get more specific than that if you ask me to :-) Any help appreciated... -- Michael Dinn, Sysop of the Moose's Swamp - Nova Scotia's largest Amiga BBS +1 (902) 463-0483, 3/12/24/48/96/14,400 baud * 170 Megabytes online School: mdinn@ac.dal.ca, dinn@ug.cs.dal.ca | These are my opinions and Work: 01Moose@ac.dal.ca, 01Moose@dalac.bitnet| noone else's. I particularly liked Flashback from Nexxus. > Another new hard drive backup program on the market is Ami-Back, from AmiComp Software Development in Orlando, Florida. Ami-Back supports backups to all types of media, including tape drives. And it doesn't require device specific drivers. It was developed as a WB 2.0 *only* program (requires KS 36.314 or later). The program looks like a part of the 2.0 Workbench and works much better than BRU. No offence, Fred (-:. In fact, a tech support person at Commodore-Canada bought the program and *loves* it. For tape users, in particular, Ami-Back includes a scheduler program modeled after the Unix cron, but with a 2.0 graphical interface. See FF447 for a demo version of v1.0 (current release is v1.02). The demo is also available on bix, GEnie and PeopleLink. During testing, GVP loaned us a WT-150 drive and Commodore loaned us one of their new A3070 drives. Both work flawlessly and are FAST with the program. btw:GVP *really* likes the program. Commercial mode off. The above information was provided for your reading pleasure.
