[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A3000 yellow screen / Toaster

mikep@hpmwtd.HP.COM (Mike Powell) (04/05/91)

In discussions of 2nd hard drive problems on some Amiga's, there
has been mention of A3000's having a yellow screen ofter a GURU,
and that the yellow screen seems to relate to the daughter board/
expansion board in the A3000. I also have noticed this problem
in my A3000, but ONLY when my Toaster is installed.

The Toaster seems to be the cause of a number of problems in my
system. I've mentioned the yellow screen, and further, the
Toaster seems to do strange things to the A3000 power supply.

It seems that the powersupply will not deliver power to the system
under some circumstances (overload????).... but I don't know for sure
(can someone comment on this?). And the Toaster seems to present
a problem to the power supply on my system... and prevents my
machine from starting up (no lights, no fan, no HD cranking... nuttin')

But this happens ONLY when I power-up while the system is still warm.

Ex: Normal system use 2-3 hrs. Turn off. Turn on....sorry. Dead.
Wait 1 hr (for cool down?). Turn on 2nd time..... everythings ok!

I have verified the Toaster's role in this by removing it during
one of the 'dead-spells'... and then the system powers right up!
(note that I do this with the power switch OFF.... I may be stupid,
	but I'm not crazy :-)

Anyway... what might be happening here?????
