[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Upgrading an A500 to WB2.0 + ECS chips, part II

jkh@MEEPMEEP.PCS.COM (Jordan K. Hubbard) (04/08/91)

Ok, I screwed up the first round by mistakenly switching Paula for
Denise (in my mail - not physically!) but the question still stands,
even if the poster has since had his Captain Midnight secret decoder
ring confiscated.

I realized last night that having a new ECS Denise still wouldn't necessarily
help me if I didn't have the newer workbench 2.0 software to drive and/or
set the new display modes. So now it looks like:

I (and many others) Have: A500 + 1MB (fatter) Agnus
Need: New Denise + WB2.0 ROMS + ???

Now if I've heard correctly, the 2.0 ROMS are 512K ROMS, and thus
not simply plug compatable, no? If so, does anyone offer some sort
of adapter board yet? Preferably with a switch allowing one to go
between 1.3 and 2.0?

I'd very much appreciate it if someone could give some indication
of what the A500 owners can expect here. I realize that the Commodore
folks have to approach the whole subject with considerable caution,
so I'm not necessarily expecting Dave Haynie to spill the company
beans here or anything. What have the 3rd party folks got in the works?
