Freind of mine asked me this question, he has no access to the net, so
please send email either directly to him or to myself. Thanks for any
information.

Hi there!

My mother has an Amiga 2000 with the 8086 Bridge board to make the Amiga
XT compatible. The problem is, she'd like to use the Amiga serial port
to go to her Diable 630 SERIAL printer.

Does anybody know how to do that?

Thanks!
Paul

It is my understanding that you can use a serial I/O card for an XT
in one of the XT/AT slots in the A-2000. You would have to use a
switch to use the printer on the Amiga.

If this is incorrect information, please let me know as I plan to
buy a serial card in the near furture to use with a 2088 Bridgeboard.
Any recomendations for brand, features, etc? I need it for use with
a modem.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking here, but, you can use an IBM-
compatible serial port card with the BB. As for printers, you can
have the Amiga "lend" it's parallel port to the BB as LPT1:, then take
it back. It can be used only by one processor at a time, but, by either
one, so a parallel printer could be used without a hardware switch.

Two thoughts. WHY put the modem on the PC side? The PC is not able
to multitask. Put the modem on the Amiga side, either on the built-in
or on an expansion board (I have the C= 7-port; runs REALLY nicely).
You can still make the files available to the PC. However, if you
still need the serial port on the PC side, I'd get something like an
old QuadRAM GOLD, which had a couple of serial ports, a parallel port,
and room for some 64K chips to bring the BB to 640K. I'm sure other
PC add-ons will work, also. For that matter, if this is a dedicated
operation, just get a PC modem board. They're usually cheaper than
externals, anyway, and you won't have to buy the board.
