[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] WANTED: External case for *internal* tape drive

vrr@cbnewsj.att.com (veenu.r.rashid) (04/10/91)

I just got a tape drive for my Amiga 3000. However, I forgot to check whether
it was an internal or external drive, and ended up receiving an internal drive
which is too large to fit in my computer. The drive is made by NEC for Teac
and measures 8 1/4" deep x 6" wide by 1 5/8" high. I am looking for a way
to convert it to an external drive. It has a simple SCSI interface (??-pin)
designed for a SCSI ribbon cable. The computer uses a DB-25 port for the SCSI
connection.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how I can build such a case -
i.e. where I could get the case and/or other cables/connectors I might
need? Also, does anybody know of any *stores/hardware repair shops* which
might be able to supply me with parts or custom-order them? One idea I have
thought of is to buy a case from Radio Shack and construct it using a
SCSI <-> DB25 converter. However, I do not know where to get one of these.
Does such a beast exist? Also, how would I cut holes in the metal case to
strict specifications? All this for under $40.

Please email to vrr@cbnewsj.att.com. I will summarize to the net if there is
sufficient interest.

Thanks very much,
Veenu
