No, if you have an A2088, you can only use 8-bit cards, the other 8 bits are simply not connected from the CPU. BUT: Many 16-bit cards allow *also* operation in 8-bit mode. No, the A2286 board is truely 16 bit, you can use a 16-bit VGA. But try to check it before you buy, not every brand works with the A2286!
