[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] CD-ROM and the A2000

grue@guru.pub.uu.oz.au (Grue) (04/19/91)

Can anyone in here say for sure whether an external (or internal) CD-ROM
drive will be made available for the A2000/500? I am not sure what to
do...I can mess about with a Sony I have, and try to interface that which
was not designed to be interfaced, or I can sell it and buy a Xetec
CD-ROM for not all that much more, or wait for Commodore's peripheral.

Is Xetec's CD-ROM compatible with CDTV? i.e. will I be able to buy discs
intended for CD-ROM and use them on the A2500/Xetec combo?

Will Commodore be releasing an external CD-ROM or on ethat fits on my
5.25" drive bay at all? I had thought that one would be released shortly
after the CDTV but I have heard rumours that there won't be one, that the
CDTV bears VERY LITTLE resemblance to an Amiga, that it doesn't use
Intuition, all sorts of nasty things in fact! I know it' based on an A500
but have they made it an A500 + some CD hardware or just a CD-ROM with a
chopped-up Amiga motherboard to control it?
