Well I thought this thing shouldn't go to waste since I sold my
A500. My brother made a custom case for our A500 as a project for his
sheet metal class. It's a really well integrated package-- a 17"x
13"x 5" cube that packs room for 2 (count'em TWO) 3.5" diskdrives in the
front, an internal bay for 5.25" harddisk, built in 150Watt IBM powersupply
with FAN. There's enuff room also for LUCAS/Frances or other memory
expansion devices that sit on top of the motherboard. Oh forgot, there's
a 2.25" space between the A500's expansion edge connector and left side
wall where we had a Palomax ST506 interface/OMTI controller
Then there's the connectors--we cannibalized a dead A500 for all of
it's back connectors and mounted them on the back panel of the box. What you
do is take your A500's motherboard out and connect them to the connectors
in the back of the box (connector cables provided). There's a 6-conductor
keyboard connector in the back for a DETACHABLE KEYBOARD. Also included is
a black vacuum-formed plastic molding for the keyboard and coiled cable.
No soldering or extra wiring required, everything has a connector
to plug your A500's motherboard in, tho I wouldn't recommend this to anyone
never openning the A500 before --more for the hardware hacker type so he
can fit all of his toys in a nice box :-)

All of this for a measly $115??? This one of the prototypes for a
line of A500 replacement cases (we also have a proto minitower) but we
never started because lack of funding and low profit forecast(some of you
may remember my usenet posting's last year).

BTW: the color of the box isn't too hot, but you can always paint
it black, granite, pink, orange, red, desert camouflage, or whatever suits
your taste.

If anyone's interested, I can ftp/email digitized images of the box
in DCTV, IFF24, or 16 color greyscale IFF formats.
