I have written a program to allow KS2.0 to run on an Amiga 1000 boasting the Lucas/Frances pair designed by Brad Fowles. Brad apparently had a 512K rom in mind when he designed the Frances kickstart translation circuitry (or made a slight error in favor of it). The translation circuitry already translates addresses between F80000-FFFFFF. The only problem here is that the addresses FC0000-FFFFFF required for the 256K ROM image AND the addresses F80000-FBFFFF are translated to the same 256K area in Frances memory. The correction to allow the full 512K address range to be translated is very simple and will not affect Frances operation with a 256K ROM image. FIX: Pin 4 of U52 (74F244) should be bent up, disconnecting it from the Frances board. Connect a wire to this bent up pin and connect it to pin 4 of U53, which remains connected to Frances. That's it! You Frances will now translate the 512K address range required for Kickstart 2.0. This modification WILL NOT affect the current operation of your Frances board, so don't worry! I have written a new program that will load KS2.0 into Frances, configure everything, and remain resident upon a reboot. I am not releasing this software until an official version of 2.0 is released. *********************************************************** * Jeff Davis * Relax!
