[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Mouse problems...

seamus@bucsf.bu.edu (jefF rizzO) (04/30/91)

Recently, my mouse has been giving me problems moving left and right...
It started a while ago, (don't remember precisely when) with a loss of
smoothness. That is, the left-right motion became somewhat jerky. Then,
about 4 days ago, it stopped responding left-right at all. I figured
it was probably the cable, so I opened it up, and removed about 2 inches
of cable near the mouse body. (Boy, was that a pain! The damn solder pads
are so close together it's nearly impossible to avoid bridging them.)
I put it back together, and it worked. Great! I thought... until I left the
room, came back, and it was responding jerkily again, and the jerkiness has
gotten worse as the evening progresses.

Anybody have any ideas what I can do to fix this? Any response is much
appreciated...

thanks in advance,
jeff

Er, you have cleaned all the built up gunge around the rollers, haven't you?

Sometimes the rollers themselves go bad --- that sticky stuff clumps, and you
can't get rid of it or smooth it out.
