[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] NOW is the time to buy an A-3000!

rbattle@hydra.unm.edu (Ron M Battle STUDENT) (05/01/91)

Just to let you know, Commodore is having a special promotion until 6/30/91,
on A-3000s. If you bring in the top page of your owner's manual with the
serial number of your C-64 or A-1000 or A-500 or A-2000, these are the prices:
 A-3000 16MHz 68030/68881 $1849.00
 A-3000 25MHz 68030/68882 $2249.00 (both have 50Mbyte HardDrives)
similar savings on the 100Mbyte model

Now, if you consider how much it would cost to get a stock A-2000 and add an
accelerator card, 2 Mbyte chip ram, 32bit DMA SCSI controller, and flicker-
fixer....... well, I think you get the idea. The A-3000s have been selling
like hotcakes in my neck of the woods! As a personal recommendation, consider
buying the 16 MHz version and saving your hard earned cash for the next
generation 68040 cards WITH cache. Remember that 200 pin connector on the
A-3000? Can you say AFFORDABLE 20 MIPS ??! :)

My dealer told me that ANY CBM machine would do! Time to dust off
that VIC-20 or PET in the closet :)

I saw this promotion advertised in AmigaWorld, and I noticed that the
discounts were for *up to* so-and-so amount of money per configuration.

Can someone who has a VIC-20 save as much money as someone who has
a A-2000, or are the discounts variable? Also, can you save extra
money if you have more than one Commodore computer?

The discounts are the same no matter what you use to upgrade
(VIC 20 -> A2500). It only depends on what you're buying. So if you
get an A3000-25/100 and you power up with a VIC 20, you'll get $1500
off. The same if you use a C64, C128, A500, & A2x00.
Now the second question is an intrigueing one (I happen to have
a C64 and 2 C128s - can we say $3500 off?) I've been trying to get
Commodore via 1-800-66-AMIGA, but all I've gotten is a recording
saying basically call 1-800-448-9987, where no one has picked up the
phone, yet. Myself, I think it's probably limited to a different CPU
per trade up, ie you have 3 C64s, you can get 3 A3000-25/1000s with $1500
off on each, but I've seen nothing in any of the literature from CBM
stating this, or anything else about multiple systems. If anyone
finds out what the policy is, please post!

Wayne,

I am glad to see the new Commodore phone editing system is working. Do
you _really_ think Commodore will give you $3500 off of a Amiga 3000?

Why does postings like this scare me so...

If thats so I'll go buy enough C-64s so that I get an A3000 25/100 free.

Nah, I was just wondering how multiple systems might affect the program. I
just chose an extreme example of what could be possible (in the correct
universe). Basically I've verified that you can only apply one computer
(or serial number as I was told) to each A3000 you get with the Power Up
deal.

Gee, George, I don't know. :)
