[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Shifting Workbench Screen

troia@gnu.ai.mit.edu (Paolo V. Troia) (05/10/91)

I have been experiencing during the last month a strange behavior with
the position of the Workbench screen when I startup my Amiga. Basically,
the problem is that sometimes when I turn my computer on, the WB screen
(which I had previously centered (and saved, of course) nicely in my
monitor with the PD program PPrefs) seems to be shifting ramdomly to
the left or the right or the monitor. My configuration is the following:
	- A500 Rev. 5 motherboard with 512K Agnus, 1.3 KS, 1.3.1 WB
	- A501 mem. expansion
	- ICD Flicker Free Video
	- Master 3A external floppy drive
	- Supra Drive 40 MB hard drive with 2MB mem. module
	- PGS Ultrasync 12" multisync monitor

Perhaps this a common problem I'm not aware of, but my monitor died
last month and now that it came back from the factory I'm noticing the same
shifting behavior again... Needless to say, I'm very concerned that
whatever might be causing the shifting could have killed my monitor too. At
first I thought the problem might be with the FFV (which was the latest
piece of equipement added to my system), but I recall the screen shifted
before I added the FFV, and besides a friend without a FFV on his 500
mentioned he was experiencing the same problem on his machine.

Also, could some of the net gurus tell me if it is possible
that the FFV might have killed the monitor on the first place? It was
working fine for about a week, and one good day the monitor simply died
right in front of me. The people I've spoken to say this is very unlikely,
but the fact that it happened so close to the addition of the FFV worries
me. The system appeared to be normal in all other aspects, aside from the
shifting problem I have mentioned...

	Thanks in advance!
