In the current Astrogram [our local rag]:
NASA to Test Space Shuttle Tiles in Rain
At Ames-Dryden, they are beginning a series of F-104 flights
with titles mounted on a test fixture [some new some used from
Columbia]. The F-104 will fly behind a KC-135 dumping water out
the back testing sizes of various droplets, and other conditions.
Initial flights (16-28 total) will be over the Mohave and later
over VAFB. There will be subsonic and supersonic flights. Ice crystal
as well as liquid tests. A camera and other instruments will
check damage.
