[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] can my internal ZOOM fax-modem work with the A3000 ?

jeff@contex.contex.com (Jeff Carey) (05/23/91)

(Please let me know if you have seen this already, we are having touble
 with our news posting mechanisms.)

The Subject line basically says it all (asks it all :-)), but
here's the deal.

I recieved a ZOOM modem as a gift from a relative who is closely tied to
the marketting of the fax-modem chip which is used on board.
In other words, I didn't buy it.
It is an internal fax-modem and is labelled to be compatible with
the IBM series of machines.
Damn, I don't have a bridgeboard.
I called up ZOOM and asked if they made a similar modem to be used
with my newly-acquired Amiga 3000. He asked, "don't you have an IBM
compatible slot in that machine?". I answered, "Oh, yah, great idea,"
hung up the phone and thought "great I'll just plug it in."
Well, I haven't tried plugging it in yet, and thought I'd try to get some
insight from you all.
So here is my question...
Should this modem board be usable on my machine?
Is this modem board usable on my machine without a bridgeboard?
Does anyone know anything about ZOOM Telephonics and the products
they offer?
What can I do...especially to avoid having to buy another modem (board)?

Thanks for any help,
jeff
