[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] A3000 SCRAMS & SetRamsey

ins760z@monu4.cc.monash.edu.au (mr c.r. hames) (05/15/91)

In my A3000UX 8/1meg system I was told the fast ram chips are SCRAMS
(a quick look NEC D424402V-80), now when I use setramsey it says static col mode
off and burst mode on (apparently this kick 36.207 doesn't turn everything that
is spose to be on). The problem is when I turn the static column mode on
I get increased perfermance but can't use my harddrive(the quantum 210s that
came with it) as it just gives errors.

Could some kind person EMAIL me what's wrong?

Thanks,

Chris Hames the person to blame for DirWork,VMK,FSDirs etc

I don't what the current word is, but I have been
told not to use SetRamsey. Maybe Dave Haynie can
shed some light on this.

SetRamsey is (in unison now) WRONG. What it calls "static column"
is really "page mode". The current Ramsey/DMAC doesn't handle page mode
properly, and the OS never turns on that bit. SetRamsey is TRUELY ancient,
and predates the release of the A3000 to the public.

The OS knows how to recognize SCRAM and use them. Trust it.
