[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Where are CHEAPEST 1MX4 SCRAM ZIPs?

rbattle@hydra.unm.edu (Ron M Battle STUDENT) (05/19/91)

I'm trying to upgrade my A-3000 (like every body else!). Are there any groups
contemplating a GROUP buy of SCRAM ZIPs? They are still quite pricey. Any
sources of CHEAP chips?? Thanx, :)

The best pricing I've heard of at the retail level is from Megatronics
(800-345-5080 or 714-282-0120). The last time one of the users on my BBS ordered
1Mx4 SCRAM ZIPs they paid about $28 each... I don't know what they're going for
now, and I've never personally bought from them, but my users seem to like the
service and prices...

I called Megatronics this afternoon. Their 'small quantity' price is actually
$32 per chip. The $28 price is for quantities > 100 pieces. These prices do
not include shipping, and there is an extra charge for payment via credit card.

Group purchase effort for the Atlanta area:

If I can get enough people to buy 104 chips (13 sets of 8), I will place the
order. I am looking for people in the Atlanta area for two reasons: 1) so that
I can get a deposit (we're talking about a purchase of nearly $3000; I can't
afford to have people change their minds), and 2) so that I won't have to
repackage and reship smaller packets of chips; I would prefer for people to
come pick them up ("from either of two convenient locations").

The chips are 80ns Static Column 1Meg x 4bits. 'Because the chips are factory
fresh (not used) and have been very reliable,' Megatronics gives a 10 year
warranty. They are in stock, and would ship from there to me via 2nd day air.

To use them in an Amiga 3000, you must install them in sets of 8 chips.

If you and/or someone else you know are interested, please reply via email.

Just called them and they were not happy about the above post.
Apparently the $28 price was for dealers and not to be quoted. The price
for bozos like me who need a mere 4 megs is 32.50...

Anyone know of a better price?

Huh. The user who left me the message with that price is just a user, as
far as I know... And he left it as a public message on the board. Maybe they
decided that it was giving too good of a deal, or they may have made a good buy
once. There were several postings on my system about this, pricing started right
around christmas time at $38, then dropped to $32, then $30 then $28...

ON that note, are there any good cheap sources for 1mbx8 70NS nibble mode
SIMMS? I need 4 megs to go in a GVP 33mhz 68030 board.
