[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] What's wrong with my A500?

What's wrong with my A500?

When I power up my A500, the screen goes either light green or
yellow for for a short time then after that the usual dark grey,
light grey, white and "insert WB-disk" screens show up. After
that everything seems OK until I try to reset the machine with
CTRL-AMIGA-AMIGA, then the screen goes dark grey, light grey,
the power lamp starts to blink and then it stopps. The only way
to start the computer again, is to turn the power off and on.

I have found one way to cure the reset-error, if I run setpatch r
in my startup-sequence the CTRL-AMIGA-AMIGA mysteriously seems to
work.

I have a rev 6a A500 with 1M Chip and a A590 with 2M Fast.

I have tried to changed DENISE, ODD CIA, EVEN CIA, 68000, ROM,
PAULA, GARY, AGNUS, power supply, keyboard, A590 and diskdrive,
but nothing seems to make any difference.

Have anyone out there seen this problem before?
What shall I do to fix the problems?
All suggestions, ideas and comments are welcome.

I believe these colours are normal for the A590 hard drive. I could
be wrong but most devices that take time to power up cause screen colour
changes to give an indication of how things are going (just like the
Amiga has its own set of colours).

I have seen a few people who had their Amiga 500s upgraded to the 8372A
Agnus chip (1 meg CHIP RAM) and experienced similar problems. It might
be the fact that a problem with the A590 ROMs and the 1 meg Agnus exists
which the SetPatch r will fix. If this fixes the problem then live with that
but you should still confirm that this is the problem. One thing to do is
take the A590 off and boot with a standard Workbench 1.3 (or 1.3.2 or 1.3.3).
If this stops the problem then maybe it is a A590/8372A conflict.

You might also want to try booting the machine without the FAST RAM in the
A590.
