To the question (about an A3000) >Suppose I put in a tape drive or extra floppy or bigger hard disk. Would my >warranty be voided? Dave Haynie answers: >I don't know the warrenty, but I certainly don't think so. C= does sell the >A3000 as an expandable machine, and they do sell floppy add-in kits. I know >they void your A500's warrenty if you open it, but that's to be expected, as >it's not internally expandable. Now, I ordered an A3000 directly from Commodore Italy as a registered developer, and the CATS-Italy staff explicitely told me NOT to install 4 MB additional RAM (8 1Mx4 chips) myself so not to void my warranty, but to ask the local C= service point. When the 3000 arrived I noticed that the RAM installation procedure was clearly documented step by step on the manual so that a normal user was apparently supposed being able to perform this installation home. But maybe in the States the rules are different than overseas... Any way, being in an University with free access to a lot of instruments, I am sure I could have proformed this installation without troubles and, for what concerns static electricity protection, sure most safely than the average service technician...
