[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] RAM boards for 2000HD

jwhitman@stl-06sima.army.mil (Jerry Whitman) (06/06/91)

I am about ready to add a RAM expansion board to my 2000HD and I need a few
suggestions.

My system is a vanilla stock 2000HD with the 40MB Rodime HD and the 2090A
controller.

The current plan is to buy a board populated with 4MB. There are several in
the market which would seem to do OK, but I am looking for clues on which
boards/configurations provide the best value and reliability, and of course,
those which should be avoided like the plague.

One mitigating factor is that somewhere down the line I may add a bridge-
board if a 386 version comes along at a price I can afford.

Upgrading to the ECS and WB 2.0 are also possibilities I must allow for.

Any helpful hints, suggestions, warnings will be welcomed.

Regards, Jerry Whitman - keeper of the FishXref and FishCon.

I don't know about the 2090A but I have a 2091.. doesn't your controler have
room for RAM expansion? My 2091 allowed me to put 2 megs on and it works with
everything..

Just my $0.02 worth but I've used a Microbotics 8-up board for about 3 years
with no problems. It has worked well with the 68000, 68010, 68030 cpu's
I've used. I curently use a Mega-Midget Racer and a friend uses an 8-up
with the Commodore 68030 board and a Commodore 2-meg memory board with no
problems. The 8-up I've used has also worked just fine with two different
brands of hard drive controllers, the 2088 bridgeboard and everything else
that has found a home (temporary or permanent) in my A-2000. It has worked
well in the 2, 4 and 6 meg configurations with most of the above also.

I would assume that any correctly designed and built memory board for the Zorro bus will give you the same results.

Just a satisfied Microbotics 8-up owner..(and general Amiga fanatic ;-)
