I've been following the recent notes concerning SCSI drives for the 1000 with great interest as I intend to get one soon. (3000 power-up offer is just a bit too expensive.) After some thought and investigation I am thinking of going with a MAC drive through a mail order firm. The reason for the MAC drive is because I'm timid about constructing my system from a bare drive and seperately purchased case with power supply. (Any words of wisdom to ease this timidity are welcome.) My SCSI interface is Microbotics's. I found a mail order firm, Hard Drives International, in Computer Shopper. They offer external MAC drives; the Quantum 105MB sells for $399! I called them and told them about my plans to use this drive in an Amiga. They have what sounds like an unconditional money back guarantee for 30 days. The only 'problem' is the size of the drive, it is designed to fit under a MAC, so all the woman I talked to knew was 'zero foot print' (which may not be true for me). I'll have to call earlier in the day to find out what the actual dimensions are. (Note, this may be a plus for me as I have a 3 year old who loves to play with the computer. If this drive will fit between my A1000 and the 1084 monitor (and support its weight) then I have a kid-proof place!) Questions I have are: Any info (good or bad) about Hard Drives International? Any first hand knowledge about the zero-footprint mac Drives (either in an Amiga or a Mac)? Any pros/cons of these zero-footprint drives over a more traditional 3.5 or 5.25 inch case? Thanks As always, if there is interest I'll summarize for the net. -- Mike Davis Death is the price we pay for progress. jmdavis@blsouth.bss.com - Dr. Who.
