[comp.sys.amiga.hardware] Monitor for 3000's superhires mode???

bja20850@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (B.J. Anderson) (06/22/91)

What monitors will display the 3000's superhires interlace mode
(1280x400) "properly"???

Got the official specs for the NEC 5D (20" multisync) right here.
max res: 1280x1024
horiz. freq: 30KHz - 60KHz
vert. freq: 50Hz - 90Hz

My guess would be that the NEC 5D should work because
1) superhires "comes" out the ~30KHz monitor port (right???)
2) the 5D can do 1280x400+

What say you of display knowledge in netland???

If by "properly" you mean without flicker, AND without losing pixels,
there is none. If you use the display enhancer, you'll be able to
get rid of the flicker, but only approx. 800 pixels will show up
since the memory on the display enhancer is limited. With the display
enhancer bypassed, you will get flicker. Can't have your cake and
eat it too, I suppose :->

Sounds like a whopping moniter, (bet it would work *great* with the
U. Lowell board :-)) but 1280x400 still wont look real good (unless
you like flicker?) Doesn't matter much what moniter you use if the
signal coming from the Amiga isn't good. CBM folks, is there a
Display enhancer Enhancer in the works which will have to memory to
deinterlace the 1280x400 mode?

I _JUST_ got my 3000!!! As in about 30 mins ago! Power-up deal works fer
me :)

Anyways... I just tried the 1280x400 mode on a NEC Multisync XL (Which is
apparently the "predecessor" of the 5D) and it doesn't look _too_ bad
(relatively :) I have it plugged into the 15pin (de-interlace) port right
now so I'm missing every other pixel but wide fonts show up and JEESH there
is a ton o' space on this workbench. I have a cable at home (no I don't own
this nifty little monitor) that should let me plug 'er into the 23pin port
and will report later about said experiment.
