Hello all,

This posting may, at first, look inappropriate for this
group but finding the people who have technical expertise in the
field of the Commodore 64 is rather difficult when, it seems,
that many of the C64 wizards have updated their equipment and now
frequent these AMIGA groups.

To the point;
I have posted these questions to COMMODOR and
although people have tried to help, I am still little further
towards finding the solutions.

1> Linking the VIC20's disk drive (the 1540) to the C64.
     a) Software fix for timing problem. I have been told that it
has been done. Who has done it and how?

     b) Hardware fix for timing problem. I have been told that a
ROM swap will solve the problem. Who has done this? Which
ROM and where can I get one (at what cost)?

2> Alternative approach is linking of 8050 diskdrive via a IEEE
interface for the C64. I have a box named INTERPOD and
having found adverts in old C64 magazines, I have
established that it is a RS232/IEEE interface for the C64.
The problem is that I don't have any documentation for it
and I do not have the cable that goes from a 24 connection
edge connector to a IEEE 24pin Centronics type connection.
I have tried wiring pin for pin 1-1 2-2 etc but I do not
     know if that is correct.

     a) Does anyone have (or had) the INTERPOD interface or
        something like it?

     b) Any ideas about the correct wiring or how to use it?

     c) I am not sure if my cable works. Would I need to use
different commands or channels to use the 8050 instead of
        the 1541?

     d) At present, the error light on the 8050 flashes
alternately with the active lights on drive 0 and 1, is
this because of a problem with the IEEE interface? Or
could it only be that the 8050 is broken?

3> May as well ask while I am intruding. Know of any PD sites
for C64? FTP sites in states? BBS in UK? etc

4> AMIGA question, for a friend. Does anyone have any figures
that show the comparative speed of an original 4.77mhz XT
and AMIGA A500's using software emulation and hardware
emulations? Please be specific. Maybe such benchmarks could
be compiled into a FAQ list.

Thanks for any help, Ben.
