I was wondering (I guess that I should have addressed this to Dave Haney[sp?]) if it is possible to get the display enhancer in the A3000 to display 1280 mode with out resolution loss. I am even interested in hearing wild ideas! And, even if it is impossible, could someone please let me know why... No. The Display Enhancer (both the DE for the A2000 and the one built-in on the A3000) would require a redesign to work with the 1280 x XXX resolution modes. This is one of my beefs with the A3000. Commodore spent millions of dollars fabricating the ECS Denise with these new resolution modes, and then does not support them with their flicker-eliminating display device. I wish Commodore would have designed the A3000's built-in DE to support these modes or, at the very least, designed the more expensive standalone DE for the A2000 to support these resolution modes. > Many thanks, > Dan Bendiksen. > > >-- >DAN BENDIKSEN - via FidoNet node 1:105/14 > UUCP: ...!{uunet, reed}!glacier!busker!601!DAN.BENDIKSEN >INTERNET: DAN.BENDIKSEN@f601.n105.z1.FIDONET.ORG ------------------------------------------------------------- / Marc Barrett -MB- | BITNET: XGR39@ISUVAX.BITNET / / ISU COM S Student | Internet: XGR39@CCVAX.IASTATE.EDU / ------------------------------------------------------------ \ The great thing about standards is that / \ there are so many of them to choose from. / -------------------------------------------------------

They did it to maintain compatibility with older software. Productivity software should now use "Productivity" mode, hence the name. The quirkiness of a flicker-fixer can be quite cumbersome for some people who need to use the system every day - the screen updates are a bit shakey for some to deal with at an 8-hour sitting. Productivity gets around that problem. To get over 600 horizontal raster lines, even IBM computers need a special display card (incidently, they need a special card to do over 200 lines, but that's not the point here). Do you know how much a typical card that supports over 600 horizontal lines costs? It has to have over 1 meg of memory installed on it. That puts it up out of reach of some of us. |> / Marc Barrett -MB- | BITNET: XGR39@ISUVAX.BITNET / -Kris +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Kriston J. No. >why... The display enhancer samples one pixel every 70ns, and it knows how to get out of the way of display modes that are already at 31kHz sync rates. The 1280 pixel modes are 15kHz, but use 35ns pixels. So you get two pixel positions for every one sample taken by the display enhancer, resulting in a scan-converted display that's missing every other pixel. -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga (Amiga 3000) "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: hazy BIX: hazy "This is my mistake.
