G'day all. I've just added an A590 to my A1000. Of course, in playing with it, I found a few unusual circumstances. For reference, it has a 20 Meg IDE style drive inside it, 2 Meg of RAM, and a gdos bug ROM. Most of the problems occurred when I added an OMTI 3100 SASI->ST506 adapter and a single 10 Meg ST506 drive. First weird thing: The ST506 drive was connected as unit 1, which attached it to SCSI ID 3, LUN 1, with nothing on LUN 0. When I ran HDToolBox, it reported that it was checking each SCSI ID and LUN, although it went noticeably faster over ID 3. The annoying part was that it didn't recognize the drive on LUN 1. I had a Mac around as well, and it had no problems recognizing the drive. Switch the drive to LUN 0 solved the problem. Second weird thing: Verify Disk Data wouldn't work on the ST506. The OMTI card doesn't support SCSI Inquiry, and I suspect this may be the reason, but shouldn't HDToolBox go with its drive size information if the Inquiry fails? Or is there some SCSI Verify command which the OMTI doesn't support either? I'm curious to know if HDToolBox's bad block mapping would work, since I know that drive has errors on it (somewhere). Otherwise, I'm quite impressed with the A590. HDToolBox was a real suprise - a very big bravo to whoever wrote it at CBM. What was the policy in Canada on ROM upgrades for it (mine has the gdos bug, and I wouldn't mind getting rid of it). -- Gregory Kritsch | University of Waterloo Fido: 1:221/208.11110 [1:163/109.30] | 1B Computer Engineering OCUG: ggk@tirith.ocunix.on.ca |---------------------------- UUCP: ggk@tirith.UUCP | The University doesn't get ...!watmath!xenitec!tirith!ggk | a chance to censor me!
