[rec.audio.high-end] Scratches in CD's

I too have had problems with scratches in CD's due to improper handling.
The scratches caused skipping and easily audible sonic defects. My quick and
dirty solution was to use some car wax (DuPont Rain Dance) to fill in the
scratches. My reasoning was that the index of refraction of the car wax should
be relatively close to that of the CD material (at least closer than air), the
wax is relatively transparent and colorless, and that it is designed to fill
small scratches and be polished to a smooth surface. Also, it would be
possible to use a solvent to remove the wax if the experiment failed.

I am happy to report excellent results, as all scratched CD's treated with the
car wax now play properly.
