Many moons ago while I was gathering my things to head off to school I acquired a Fisher X-1000 amplifier and a FM-200B tuner. They were both old tube gear vintage 1962 or so, but were functional. Both pieces were replaced as quickly as possible, (years), since everyone knows that old tube gear just isn't as good as modern solid-state equipment. However, I have since learned that many people still consider some tube equipment as superior to solid- state gear. My question: Was/is this equipment considered good, bad, mediocre, or boat anchor? What was its history? Can they be modified or updated to current standards or are they destined to remain bulky room heaters, (they did very well in this category)? I would welcome any civil comments. Either this forum or email. Alan Fronk
