The latest CD rumor is that darkening the inner and the outer rings of a CD with an orange marker (has to be orange!) will improve sound quality. Seriously. I heard this on the BBC world service (which is not known for the high quality of its sound by any means). Where do these rumors start? Why do I keep hearing them? Armor-All I might be able to understand, but there is no real information stored on the inner and outer bits of a CD, and therefore you could blacken (or remove) them without affecting the sound. Is it part of the Enid conspiracy? Do people actually take these seriously? --scott (who hears digital audio from his radio all day long)
