I have an MFA Magus A-3 preamp, which contains 4 tubes. The manufacturer recommends turning it on half an hour before using it. I think the sound continues to improve for considerably more than half an hour after it's turned on. I leave my solid-state power amp (PSE Studio 4) on all the time. It would be nice to leave the preamp on all the time, but I'm concerned about burning out the tubes prematurely (and to a lesser extent about electricity consumption and vulnerability to interruptions or degradations of house power, as during storms or use of a solid-state toaster oven). Does it make sense to leave the preamp on all the time if I listen every day? What if I listen on weekends and once during the week?
